I have been thinking of making raagi Idlis for a while now. We get ready-to-make raagi Idli mixture in the market. I see it in the supermarket every time I visit, so instead of buying the ready-to-make packet, I thought of making it at home with raagi flour. It turned out quite soft, fluffy and healthy. So here’s the recipe for you all.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup raagi flour (finger-millet flour)
- 1/2 cup rice flour
- 1 small onion chopped into small pieces
- 1/2 tsp fruit salt (Eno)
- salt to taste
For the tempering:
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp chana dal (split bengal grams)
Method :
- Mix together raagi flour, rice flour and salt.
- Add a little water to make like a batter that can be poured into idli moulds.
- Add chopped onions and mix well.
- Heat oil in a small pan. Add cumin seeds and chana dal. When the chana dal is a little red , pour this tempering over the batter.
- Now add the fruit salt. Mix well and pour into the idli moulds.
- Steam for 20 minutes.
- Ready to serve. Goes well with sambar and chutney.
