“Applause begets applause in the theatre, as laughter begets laughter and tears beget tears.”

Clayton Hamilton, Theory of the Theatre

Imagine a stage pulsing with the sum of all human emotions, youthful energy, scripts sourced from various institutions across the country and an event where creativity and self-expression are celebrated. the event is Histrionica – the annual theatre festival organized by Sri Ram College of Commerce. Initiated in 2004, Histrionica is today in its own unique creative space across Delhi University because apart from unleashing creative energy, it also addresses social angst unsparingly.

The dramatics society of Shri Ram College of Commerce has worked over the years to add gravitas and substance to the event and to make theatre accessible to not just those who aspire to it but those who watch it from a distance. Today, Histrionica has pushed boundaries and acquired national credibility. This year, the four day festival interprets theatre in all its manifestations from classic to rustic, populist to experimental.  Very soon, Histrionica may go international too.

As a famous quote says, “One of the greatest things drama can do, at it’s best, is to redefine the words we use every day such as love, home, family, loyalty and envy.”  Histrionica 2012, will take its participants and audience into the heart of life, its many shades, many beginnings and many ends, pain and triumph, joy and tragedy.
