The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
How aptly they defined in a few words, the importance of a better ‘you’ as far as health is concerned but I have a question here, “who is the real you in you?” The gross you that is limited to physicality, ego identity? Or the wakeful state and the subtle you that is your very existence, your soul, your mind that governs every area of life? The physical body is the temple which houses your soul. So sure we need to cleanse it but as we know no matter how much we tend to the leaves, we must water the roots.
Our mind is the source of all sickness and depression which has become the most common problem recently where people cannot adjust to the constant dynamism. Diseases are nothing but dis-ease with the over-dependence on the material aspects of living. We are a cluster of breathing, life-pulsating cells no matter how often we might feel like robots with our remote controls handed over to the gadgets, the gizmos, the overwrought emotions, the politics around us, or religion which uses us and our resources to depletion.
The television swears upon the new drug that can revitalize you. More and more hospitals and infirmaries in the country prove the poor state of health we are in. It’s time now to take charge. Mind is just like the seed which, if nurtured well, has the potential to manifest into a magnificent tree. It is time to nurture it.
Research says that most of the medicines induce sleep and that’s when 80 per cent of the healing takes place. Hence Meditation, which is a wakeful sleep, or the rhythm of the incoming and outgoing breath can open up your powerhouse of endless healing energy.
Health is the quality of life we lead. We must inculcate awareness which can uproot the weeds before they spread.
A yogic, balanced life-style can help us gain a healthy mind and body.
And it is easy to remember a few steps to well-being, both inner and outer..
- Act with love.
- Have an attitude of Gratitude.
- Introspect.
- Have issues with self-appreciation? Well, an experiment which proves the power of positive vibrations was done with pots of plants that grew under similarly positive environment but one was exposed to hatred and negativity. In a week the former died and the latter blossomed beautifully. The vibration we send to our own self is creating our reality.
- Read good books and keep fine company.
- Meditate.
- Cultivate discipline and choose mindfully what you absorb in your mind and your body. Be close to nature.
- Remember like begets like. You are a mirror of what you believe in.
- Live stress free…live free.
- Think healthy and feel healthy.
Wake up to the gift of life and rejoice. It is a privilege to be YOU.
