 About the author – Ashok Sanjay Guha is Professor Emeritus at the School of International Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Educated at Presidency College, Kolkata, and Harvard University, he returned to India as professor of economics at the School of International Studies. He has been associated with the university since its inception and still teaches there—a lifelong relationship only interrupted at times by visiting professorships at Yale, UCLA, UC Berkeley, Georgetown University, the universities of Colorado, Syracuse and Melbourne, and the Institute of Development Studies at Sussex. He has published in most of the world’s leading economic journals. He has authored An Evolutionary View of Economic Growth, besides editing and contributing substantially to Trade, Growth and Industrial Structure and Markets and Morals. He also writes frequently in the popular press on a wide variety of subjects. He lives in Gurgaon with his wife and daughter.
