When you are studying in an all-girls school and you watch Bollywood romances in your spare time, it’s no surprise that you tend to develop unrealistic and crazy notions about love. For instance you look forward to the day when Mr. Right will meet you on a train/aeroplane/auto ride, and will be so taken in by your charm, beauty and grace that he will  decide there and then that he will make you his and every day from then will be a happily ever after fairy tale. But life is no rom-com, and if you are lucky enough you will realize this sooner than later.

As you grow older, you realize that the checklist you made of a perfect man is unrealistic and that there is no such thing as a perfect man. There is no such thing as a perfect love, there is no such thing as eternal happiness and there is no such thing as love being the only thing you need. Love is not meant to be perfect, to love someone dearly and truly, you don’t need to catch a running train,  break through the airport security or worst of all crash a wedding .To love someone.. all you need is an open mind without inhibitions, to accept your partner for who they are, to understand that the real relationship starts after the ‘Honeymoon Phase’, to realize that sometimes it’s not going to be easy, to let go when it is time, but all this is easy to type on a word document, then to apply to your life. It is easier and nicer to imagine living the perfect life than to imagine leading a normal one, and hence we run and run, just like the heroine runs after the speeding train. Only difference is that she gets picked by her Mr. Right, while we keep running.

Often I wonder why it is so difficult to find true love. The kind of love that makes you feel nice and warm on a cold chilly day, the kind of love that makes you want to be in love, the kind of love that never dies, the kind of love that makes you want to run into his arms and cry out your sorrows when things go bad, the kind of love that thrills, excites and ignites passion, the kind of love that makes you realize that you are in love and this is no passing phase!

Love isn’t hard to find, you see it everywhere, but committing to it is difficult, to love someone isn’t easy. Most of the time we love someone for the way they love us. It’s always about us, seldom  about the other person. Maybe we should stop looking for love and instead look for open-mindedness, generosity, kindness and compassion, and if you find all this you will find love. Love isn’t a bird, that  you cage, it is the sky… wide and infinite.  It might be sunny, cloudy or just dark, but it never remains the same for long. Now give it a chance, go fall in love!!
